Steps to Applying to Colleges:
- Start Early!!! Pay attention to deadlines!
- Continue to visit colleges/universities in person. Connect with any college reps who visit Arcanum!
- Know application deadlines! Some colleges (Miami, Ohio State) have November 1 deadlines for scholarship consideration. Many others have December 1 deadlines!
- Understand application deadlines. Know the difference between Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision.
- College applications are online. Many colleges/universities use the Common Application.
- Complete a transcript request form if you need any transcripts mailed or emailed to the college/university. Colleges will want an official copy sent from the Counseling Office.
- If you want your official college transcripts sent to another institution, you must request those directly from the college (Edison, Franklin, or Sinclair). See the College Credit Plus page for further information.
- Letters of recommendation...know if you need them and give your recommenders plenty of notice and time.
- Register and prepare for any additional ACT/SAT testing.
- Write your essay for any schools that require it. Many schools using the Common Application require an essay. Ask English teachers to proofread and provide feedback!
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) with parents/guardians' assistance.
- If applicable, complete NCAA or NAIA registration.
